Facebook has been reexamining their purpose and trying to return somewhat to its roots of bringing people closer together and helping them build relationships.  On January 11th, 2018 Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Facebook, announced changes in the way news will feed into each person’s personal stream to help re-calibrate Facebook back towards its original mission.  They call it “putting friends and family first”, which broadly means they will put a greater weighting or emphasis on individual/personal friends and family postings that can engage interaction between people over posts from publishers or businesses.

What does this mean for my businesses?  — Businesses that relied on posting to their Facebook Page to drive engagement to their followers are likely to see a drop in their engagements. Because space in the news feed is limited, showing more posts from friends and family and updates that spark conversation means they will show less public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses.

How does Social Flash Media Help?  For those businesses using Social Flash Media’s marketing platform, they are not impacted.  More importantly, by having their happy customers posting themselves, these posts will likely be even more viewed and engaged with, which may translate to higher engagement levels.  This is because Social Flash Media helps your customer tell your story by turning them into brand ambassadors through advocate-marketing.  With theseFacebook changes, it’s a much better strategy to have your happy customers tell your story and share their experience with their friends than your company.

We hope this tidbit of information helps you with your social media marketing strategy for 2018.
